Field Trips to the Agency's facilities at 999 Flatbush Road in Kingston
New York offers students an opportunity to learn first-hand how curbside
materials are sorted, separated and packaged at a working material recovery
facility and transfer station.
Schools and groups can make arrangements to tour the facilities by completing the form below. Educational material is available for each
grade level, and can be incorporated into the math, science, or english
curriculum.
Field trips include:
A "hands-on", one to two-hour program including a visit to
the Material Recovery Facility.
This is an opportunity to trace the path of yard waste, recyclables
and garbage from curbside to remanufacture or disposal. Learning about
the 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) and exploring how student’s individual
actions can help reduce waste. A "pre-tour" presentation of
how the recycling sorting line works, discussion of renewable vs non-renewable
resources, what raw materials are used to make everyday household products
that are part of the State mandated recyclables criteria, and products
that are made from recycled material.
There is no charge for field trips to the Agency facility. The Agency
provides this service to schools as part of its mission to reduce waste
going to landfills. In exchange for this service, teachers must commit
to the following:
